The Accessible Icon Project encourages inclusive groups of youth and adults with all abilities to re-imagine accessibility at their workplaces, schools, and nonprofits.
Some groups have purchased our Accessible Icon stickers and have posted them on vertical accessible parking signs or bathroom signs in local buildings.
Other groups, including Triangle’s School-to-Career students and EPIC Service Warriors, and students at Malden High School have collaborated with like minded partners at Talbots, Goodwin Procter, and the CBD Garage in the City of Malden to paint the Accessible Icon on their horizontal parking spots. You can watch Ablevision’s story about one of the projects. If you live in the Massachusetts area, you can rent our Accessible Icon stencils for $50 a piece in order to repaint parking spots at your workplace, school, or nonprofit. Our only request is that you put together an inclusive group to do the repainting and you return our stencils. If you are looking for partners in the Massachusetts area please consider partnering with Triangle's School-to-Career students or the young leaders from EPIC Service Warriors.
We have also included a .pdf of the Accessible Icon in our shop. Feel free to use this .pdf to print off stickers, create parking lot symbols, or maybe even order a batch of temporary tattoos! Use your creativity to create community and promote accessibility.
Also, follow these six steps for creating and painting with your own DIY disability parking space stencil!
